Patrick Maloney, Principal & FounderPatrick founded Occam Advisors to help investors and entrepreneurs build companies and funds that combine impact and financial return and has been working at the intersection of capital and impact across sectors and asset classes for most of his career. Prior to forming Occam Advisors, he was a Principal with Imprint Capital, a leading impact investment advisor to foundations and high net worth families, where he was Head of Strategy as well as lead for the Energy & Environment practice area. Prior to Imprint, he was Program Director for The Lemelson Foundation, where he headed the Foundation’s investments in for-profit and non-profit organizations developing and distributing energy, water, agricultural and health technologies, primarily in the developing world. Before that, he worked for mission-driven investors in Silicon Valley, including Omidyar Network and Google.org. He started in finance at Barclays Global Investors, where he co-developed the world’s first exchange traded fund risk-optimized to social, environmental and governance factors. Kate Hammarback, Principal
As a Principal at Occam Advisors, Kate works closely with clients to explore, develop, execute and manage impact investing strategies that help them grow their mission and meet their financial goals. Her experience developing pipeline for place-based lending programs and leading diligence and underwriting on community lenders, developers, and nonprofits has supported the local deployment of millions of impact dollars in Oregon. Kate’s expertise in place-based lending is also served by her ability to develop and build relationships with stakeholders from diverse, and sometimes disparate, parts of the ecosystem. Kate also applies her passion for economic development and entrepreneurship to work with the Oregon Capital Scan--a comprehensive, statewide report on the types and amount of capital available to businesses in Oregon. Kate's background in program development, relationship management, project execution and fundraising spans the public, private and nonprofit sectors and gives her a unique perspective on problem-solving, collaboration, and investment. Kate graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received her MBA and her MPA from the University of Oregon. Yesenia Gallardo Avila, PrincipalAs a Principal at Occam Advisors, Yesenia works with clients to identify, build, and support relationships with socially-minded startups in strategic regions around the world. She leads diligence on early stage venture investments for clients from developing a business case, to financial and risk analysis, to investment execution and management. Yesenia’s expertise also includes cultivating relationships with partners and co-investors in key regions to build pipeline opportunities for clients. As a serial entrepreneur who has founded multiple companies in the food and beverage sector, she is passionate about supporting underserved and underrepresented entrepreneurs with environmental and social missions. Yesenia received her masters in environmental management from Yale University's School of the Environment and BA from Willamette University. You can often find her on the porch reading a good book. Sayer Jones, Principal
Sayer has 15 years direct experience working with institutions structuring and measuring the impacts of their investments. He led the regional impact investing practice at Meyer Memorial Trust in program related investment and mission related investment portfolios for 12 years, deploying over $50 million. Sayer has chaired city and state boards focused on impact investing and managing public portfolios for impact. He has led investors in workshops to align social values with financial and cultural returns, and has experience as an entrepreneur, representing asset owners, and managing fund managers and consultants. Sayer is also on the Board of the Oregon Capital Scan, which collects and presents data to identify gaps in Oregon’s investment ecosystem and guide economic development strategies to address those gaps.
